Description

College of Cruelty is a 5e-compatible adventure for four to six characters of level 6. It plays for 3-4 hours. The adventurers are drawn into the College of Cruelty while they sleep. Hopefully the heroes can escape and foil the faculty’s plan to ensnare an entire town in their sadistic web.

The multiverse is home to innumerable worlds. Perhaps the most unsettling are worlds that bear a striking similarity to our own world but are utterly alien in their disparity. Within such a world is the College of Cruelty, a network of institutes suspended on the strands of a continent-sized web. The resident scholars are man-faced spiders the size of horses, pursuing knowledge without regard for safety, sanctity, or sanity. These Arachnademics are eager to acquire new specimens for study and they do not solicit consent

The adventurers awaken to find themselves falling through space, along with their bedding and possessions. A portal snaps shut above them. Stately, old-brick-buildings hang precariously from glinting spider-silk strands, connected to one another by nearly vertical bridges. Below, over a pit lined with soft spider-silk, a net rapidly rises to meet the falling party. The net and soft silk protects the adventurers from falling damage, but they must make a successful Dexterity Saving Throw DC 15 upon landing, or suffer 10 (3d6) bludgeoning damage from banging into each other and/or other falling objects. When the party lands, a hatch above is sealed by spider-masked humanoids with awkward, clawed hands, leaving them in darkness.
