Description

A captain seeks to map an island that doesn’t exist, and so he requires a little assistance.

This is a one level Only Crits adventure beginning at level six, designed for a party of four. It is a seafaring adventure, with a lighthearted nature and a focus on mystery. There are pirates and sailing, and the plot centers upon exploration, specifically of a strange island. It is recommended that at least one of the PCs either has the sailor background or proficiency with cartographer’s tools. In this first section you'll find a brief overview of the adventure's plot points, NPCs, dungeon map, boss stat block and plot hook.

The story begins with the party agreeing to map an island identified by Captain Brofuctio, in the Western Isles. They sail in the direction identified, but soon realize that the island does not seem to exist. As they seek a way to get back or to figure out where they are, a pirate ship descends upon them. The party can either fight them or talk to them, either way it is revealed that the island they’ve been hired to map is a legendary island that seems to move, appear and disappear. The pirates planned on using it as a home base after fashioning a strange compass from the stones of the island that always points in its direction. When the party arrives they can easily map the island, but must enter a deep cove which eventually descends underneath the island itself in order to complete the map. Within the cove is a terrifying creature, The Slither, which attacks them. Upon slaying the creature the island winks out of existence.
