This is a three level adventure beginning at Level 6, designed for a party of 4. The levels are broken up into chapters, with each chapter designed to take an estimated 3-5 hours of play. Shadows of Pain uses assets from the Core rulebooks as well as our supplement Guillman’s Guide to Speed, with alternatives provided for anyone that doesn’t have GGtS.

Notes for the GM

This adventure is set in the town of Brickack, however if you’re including this storyline as a part of a larger campaign it will make more sense to set it in a town, village or city with NPCs familiar with the player characters. The more personal you can make the interaction in this story, the better. Brickack is a town from our sourcebook Guillman’s Guide to Speed, and there are other assets included in the adventure drawn from that supplement. All other assets will have alternatives identified if you do not have access to Guillman’s Guide to Speed. Additionally, if you are going to set this adventure in Brickack, the party should be aware that they have been to the town and are familiar with it and some of its residents already.

On Choosing a Shadow Class

In this adventure various shadow version of party members (stat blocks in the appendix) will play key roles. The designs for these shadow party members are built based on their class. Throughout the adventure these shadow party members will be differentiated by number (i.e. Shadow 1, Shadow 2). When these shadow members are mentioned as such, we highly recommend using different stat blocks, representing a different party member, each time. If there are multiple members playing the same class you can of course repeat the same stat block, but ensure you’ve included specific details that make it clear the shadows are different from one another.
